After prison, DJ Carey “will have to face life and it will probably be a tough life for him”
At the sentencing hearing last Friday, DJ Carey was warned a custodial sentence was inevitable. This Monday lunchtime, Judge Martin Nolan came good on that warning, jailing the former Kilkenny hurler for five and a half years for what he described as a “reprehensible” fraud. The only worse thing he could imagine than pretending to have cancer would be deceiving a group of elderly people, the judge said. Head down, Carey was led away by prison officers from the courtroom.
