An environmental NGO has launched a judicial review challenge over the Aquaculture Licences Appeals Board (ALAB)’s decision to overturn a ministerial order to halt operations at a salmon farm off the coast of Kerry run by a subsidiary of the salmon giant Mowi. In April 2019, the minister of state responsible for fisheries stripped Silver King Seafoods Ltd of its entitlement to operate its farm off Deenish Island in Ballinskelligs Bay, as it was found to have harvested well in excess of the limit set in licence conditions in 2016.
